Frequently Asked Questions About Turf
Is your turf pet-friendly?
Yes, the American-made turf products that we use have an antimicrobial additive built into the fibers. To make it truly pet-friendly, we add a combination of Envirofill and a deodorizer infill.
What is needed to maintain turf?
Use a blower to remove leaves and vegetation as needed. In areas with low foot traffic, very little maintenance is needed. In areas with higher foot traffic, we recommend turf grooming at least once a year.
Court Builders of Arizona provides this service. We use gas brooms to groom the fibers until they are brushed back up to their original state. If there are years of foot traffic, more than one grooming appointment may be needed.
Rain showers will wash the turf. If there are months without rain, simply spray the turf with your hose to wash off any dirt or dust.
How do you install turf when I currently have real grass in the area?
At Court Builders of Arizona, we make every effort to provide a chemical free installation. To prepare for the installation, we cap sprinkler lines at the valve box, so there is no longer underground water feeding the area. Then, we physically remove any real grass with a sod cutter.
Once the area is prepped for installation, we lay a crushed rock base. Then, we put down a commercial weed block. Finally, we install the turf on top. We have great success with this process, since there’s no sunlight and no water source. If nut sedge or nut grass are present, we may have additional recommendations.
How long do you expect turf to last in the greater Phoenix area?
We have been installing turf since the early 1990’s. Because we use high-quality, American-made turf, we expect a 15-year lifetime.
